I’m Pregnant: Now What?

Whether you are a new obstetrical patient with Dr. Polcino or just found out you are pregnant, here are some basic instructions for a healthy pregnancy.

What should I avoid during pregnancy?

  • No alcohol, drugs, or smoking
  • No medications unless you consult with a doctor
    • Tylenol, Tums, Pepcid, prenatal vitamins are okay
  • No swimming, baths, or intercourse in the last month of pregnancy nor beforehand if any problems occur

What should I start doing now that I'm pregnant?

  • Eat 3 meals a day and a snack at night
  • Use water bottles that are BPA-free
  • Caffeine should be cut down to half of what you are consuming now
  • Exercise 3 times a week for about a half hour, but do not over exert yourself or get overheated

What do I need to consult a doctor about in the coming weeks?

  • New obstetrical patient bloodwork should be done as soon as possible unless a physician says otherwise
  • Sonograms are done in early pregnancy transvaginally
  • You should contact the hospital regarding Lamaze classes
